Last summer was a summer of bugs and Barbies.  Seymour teens read a ton of books-1,075 hours of reading, volunteered their help for lots of kids’ programs,  read to 98 book buddies, adopted almost every stack of bookshelves in the children’s room  and transformed duct tape and old t-shirts into amazing things.  Just wait to see what great things they do during the summer of 2009!

Manga Art Contest Winners 002Winners of the library’s manga art contest for teens were announced on Monday, June 1.  20 young artists submitted their work.  First Place winner was Kateesha Walker.  Second place went to Carrie Cocuzzi.  Shane Gerow won Third Place and David Malachowski earned an Honorable Mention.  Prizes included gift certificates to the Hammergirl Anime store, art supplies, and certificates for a free drawing lesson, contributed by Mary Beth Dolan of Start Here Studio, one of the judges.  All entries are on display in the Duryea Room at the library. Stop in and admire all the creativity and effort these teens put into their work.

There are always too many books to read – so many new titles coming out all the time and more books by favorite authors.  It’s great when someone you know recommends a title as “The best book I ever read!” or demands to know when the sequel to something that they just finished is coming out.  The Knife of Never Letting Go is one of those books.  I might not have read it if one of our regular teen readers hadn’t asked about the sequel.   Now I’m just as impatient as he is for the second book!  Thanks, Trent, this was the best book I ever read!
